In the selection for the 2000 team, nice to see that Jeff Carter is still loved here!

Can't wait for MoAT to comment on Primeau's vote count

Great read as always Bill, thanks. My love for the game follows a similar path, I had listened to a couple games in the early 70's but it wasn't until I saw a Blazers game live at the Civic Center ( I think ) with my Dad that the love for the game exploded. 2 memories from that game are of the guy that sat near us and refused to stand during the national anthem and my Father and another fellow commenting on it and me trying to see if the guy really was 'Yellow' and if he didn't have a spine. The other was of the goalie for the Blazers, with our seats behind the net and this person takes the ice to tend goal I see 'Parent' on the back of his jersey, my first thought was he was the parent of the players playing in front of him. It wasn't until my Father explained it to me and from that moment on Bernie has been my all-time favorite player.

Yea, I guess I was biased with that one (even though I didnt vote for him.. my three were Richards, G, and Forsberg). JR was always one of my favorite players.. From the Hawks to the Coyotes, and to the Flyers...

Great write-up Bill, thanks

My first Flyers memory is going to a game during the 72-73 season (I was 7). They were playing St. Louis, and I remember they won the game and there were lots of fights and scrums. As a little kid, the one player I remember standing out was Rick Macleish who seemed to just be flying all over the ice.

After that game I was completely hooked and I started playing Squirt hockey the following season.

As to your poll, my top 3 centers for 2000 til now would be:
1. Giroux
2. Richards
3. Primeau

Keep up the great work, I look forward to your blog every day!

It was a tough one for me between Briere and Forsberg, which means I probably should have selected Briere. Forsberg is my favorite player of all time. I was never more excited for a Flyers move than when they got Forsberg. I have worn #21 since I was 10.

Great stuff! Got a similar story to "parent". When I was very young, I thought the Flyers players and Fred Sharp actually lived at the Spectrum since they played "home" games there.

Same here. Richards and Giroux should be almost no-brainers (although I know there's a few people out there who have personality issues with Richards). Briere sticks out to me because he was a key member of the team's transformation over the last 6 years and because of his ability to step up int he playoffs.

Yup. That's the same 3 I voted for. I would keep them in that order.

Peter Forsberg only played 100 games as a Philadelphia Flyer, that's not a large enough body of work IMO.

I'm very jealous. My first game was in the 92/93 season. All I remember is that they played the Nordiques, the program had Calude Boivin, and the string band played right next to us.
But there was something strange at that game that maybe someone else can comment on. After the 1st and 2nd periods, someone handed out to everyone in our section a full scoresheet to date. My dad had never had it happen before, and neither of us ever had it happen since. Maybe Bill can shed some light on this.

I think Giroux, and Richards are no brainers.

The third slot comes down to Briere and Primeau.

Briere was a monster in the playoffs.... 72 points in 68 playoff games as a Flyer.

I think Primeau's defensive prowess gives him the slight nod over Danny B. I like Briere a lot, total class act and money in the playoffs, but when he wasn't scoring he was a liability on the ice.

I went with Giroux, Richards and Roenick. JR put up 0.800 PPG in the last few years of the dead puck era, and (probably foolishly) played thru significant injuries to help the team, especially in the 2004 playoffs.

I chose the same. JR had some monster heart. Always remember the goal in the playoffs vs. the leafs.

I went with G, Primeau, and JR. The 2003-04 time is my second favorite flyers team ever, and i can't overlook Primeau's contributions to that squad.

G, Richie and Primeau. forsberg didn't play here long enuf and briere was too much of a liability defensively.
